Introduction

The Master of Anthropology and Planetary Futures (Advanced) is designed to help students explore how human cultures interact with and shape the environment on a global scale. The program emphasizes understanding the social, cultural, and political aspects of sustainability and change. It combines core anthropological concepts with practical approaches to addressing complex issues such as climate change, environmental justice, and technological impacts. Students will study different ways societies respond to ecological challenges and how those responses can influence future worlds. The coursework encourages critical thinking about the interconnectedness of local and global processes affecting the planet.

Students will also engage in research projects that develop skills for analyzing and presenting ideas about planetary futures. The program offers opportunities to work with contemporary issues, fostering an understanding of how Indigenous knowledges and diverse perspectives can contribute to sustainable solutions. It prepares students for careers in research, policy, or community work by grounding them in both theoretical foundations and real-world applications. The course aims to equip learners with a nuanced view of human-environment relationships, helping them become thoughtful contributors to global discussions on sustainability and future planetary conditions.
