Introduction
Masters programme, 120 ECTS-credits
Transportation is an essential and integral part of any society. A growing global population, combined with environmental degradation, presents new challenges in designing tomorrow's transportation solutions. As a transportation designer, you can play a key role by developing sustainable, functional and safe products and systems that appeal to future users.
The Master’s Programme in Transportation Design is rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition where the needs of the individual are always at the centre of the creative process. The education encourages a balanced process where form, function, materials and technologies work together to benefit users. Students will explore how to design and develop vehicles of all types.

Curriculum
Modern methods and aids
The studies convey the ability to work with conceptual ideas, genuine knowledge of work development in the automotive industry, and a good comprehension of the use of modern methods and aids in transportation design. During your studies, you develop specific knowledge in areas like presentation techniques, strategic design, visual storytelling, physical and digital development.
Project work with external partners
The programme combines theoretical and creative workshops and intensive skill development. A great deal of time is devoted to project work in collaboration with external partners like research institutions or design departments from different companies. During training, the student receives constant feedback from experienced industrial designers working in the industry. All courses are conducted in English.
Define your graduation project
You are expected to define a problem area, establish contact with an external partner and write a project brief that includes aims, method description, anticipated deliverables and outline budget. The process of defining your project starts early in the third term in dialogue with faculty members and the programme coordinator. A professional designer is assigned as an external tutor during your project.

Degree show with invited companies
All degree projects are presented at a big end-of-semester event - the UID Design Talks & Degree Show. Here, students from all programmes participate. In addition to students, relatives and friends, the audience includes representatives from NGO's and multinational companies from across the globe.
International Students & Exchange Students
The teaching language is English and the course is open to international students and exchange students. When exchange students are accepted, they have been selected on equal terms as our regular students starting the autumn term of the first study year.

Career Opportunities
Internships
Internships allow further development of professional skills and the expansion of one's own business networks in preparation for a future career in transportation design. Over the years our students have been taking advantage of the school's broad network of industry connections, engaging in voluntary internships during the summer months between the first and second year in the programme, or by applying for a full gap year sometime before the final thesis project. The school encourages a period of practice in connection to the master education and for this reason, an elective third term internship is also a formal possibility in the programme syllabus.
