Introduction

This is where I start to make a difference.

(Re-)Thinking Management & Society

With our Masters of Arts program in Management you will not only get a professional university education but also find an environment where management, cultural and social sciences, theory and practice, ethics and sustainability come together – and where these phenomena are not taken for granted, but reflected critically and empathically. You will have the opportunity to incorporate, embody and reconsider your responsibility to management and society. Over four semesters you will graduate through subjects designed to provide you with “structure” (theory), “performance” (practice), “transformation” (leadership) and “research” (synthesis). Now, why choose between being a generalist or a specialist? The program foundation is built on the pillars of general management and personal skills development.

You can then select two out of six areas of specialization:

  • Brand
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Cultural Change & Society
  • Human Resources & Diversity
  • New Media
  • Sustainability

The Karls – a truly international environment

Experiencing interculturality is a natural part of everyday life at the Karls. Our community is composed of students, faculty, and staff from more than 50 countries from around the world. Since the start of the Master’s program, up to 70% of our students have had an international background (see map below). The Masters of Arts in Management is an international and English-taught program where we embrace diversity at all levels – whether it be nationality, age, study background, work experience etc. We see ourselves as an international and intercultural hub for collaborative experiences. The Karls is a member of the ATLAS network, Businet, and EAIE with over 100 partner universities around the world.

Our students come from all over the world

Unique approach to education

At the Karls, we do not spoon-feed you with mere factual knowledge or a 'universal truth'. Instead, our students learn to think critically about today‘s realities, seek responsibility and find disruptive solutions to complex problems. The Karls is characterized by small classes (20-30 students) and supported by the strong network of our professors, lecturers, and staff from various industries and academic fields. We take interdisciplinary perspectives on management and structure real-life practice and problem-solving into all our programs. Our students are chosen because they want to co-create sustainable change, are willing to assume responsibility and believe leadership is an opportunity to serve others and society. Our understanding of education follows the Principles for Responsible Management Education, which was launched at the 2007 UN Global Compact Leaders’ Summit.

Strong Community and Lifelong Networks

Our students, faculty, and staff have a strong, intimate bond and close relationships in a community where they relate to, engage with and appreciate each other. Our networks in academia, business, arts, culture, politics, science and civil society are more than ink on paper. They are alive and kicking in the ongoing interactions with our partners – not just at the city or country level but vibrant at the international stage as well. Our Karls alumni are working in global or regional companies, in the German Mittelstand like innovative startups or family businesses. Some of the companies our alumni have been working in are e.g. Daimler, Porche, Ralph Lauren, Hays, KPM Berlin, MSK Pharmaceuticals, Lidl Stifftung and Co. KG, Explain GmbH, ZKM Center for Art and Media, Esslingen live - Kultur und Kongress GmbH, Europa Park, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, time2sustain, Naranjas del Carmen, Spain . One of the key benefits of the Master program is, that it allows you to already start a job or keep working in your current position as classes are scheduled exclusively from Thursday afternoon to Saturday afternoon.
