Introduction
Psychology is a discipline whose goal is to understand and improve the functioning of individuals, groups, and societies as a whole. Students interested in the unitary "long-cycle" 5 year Master program are usually those who want to work as professional psychologists dealing with diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues (Clinical Psychologists) or in the business world, in marketing and advertising or human relations (Work and Organizational Psychologists).
Students of the unitary "long-cycle" 5 year Master program are willing to pursue their professional career in psychology with the knowledge, that in order to work as a psychologist you often have to gain credentials other than just the Master-level diploma. What is needed are competencies and skills gained during 5 years of study (300 ECTS) and, very often, a supervised training process. Specific requirements vary between countries and regions. For examples please refer to EuroPsy Regulations or Norwegian National Curriculum for Professional Education in Psychology.
