Introduction

Generalist training, combining technical/scientific knowledge with artistic/cultural training is the hallmark of the Landscape Architecture course at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Algarve.

The main objective of the Master in Landscape Architecture is to form professionals with a wide technical and scientific background in Landscape Architecture and with the necessary abilities to exercise the profession in Europe, as demanded by the Portuguese Association of Landscape Architecture (APAP) and the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA Europe) and capable to innovate and to strengthen the scientific research in the key areas of analysis and representation, landscape design project, management and planning of landscape and land.

Admission requirements

Conditions of Access

  • Holders of a bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture;
  • Holders of a bachelor's or integrated master's degree in Architecture, Geography, Environmental Engineering, Agronomy, etc.) subject to an equivalence process to obtain credit in project and planning areas that allow access to the professional exercise of Landscape Architect;
  • Holders of a foreign higher education degree equivalent to a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the Bologna Process by a state adhering to this process;
  • Holders of a foreign higher education degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree of “licenciado” (bachelor of science);
  • Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum attesting to the ability of the candidate to carry out this degree.

Necessary documentation

  • Curriculum Vitae (with personal data, academics, and professionals)
  • Certificate of Qualifications, with the discrimination of the classifications obtained in each unit
  • Payment proof of 50€ registration fee.

Scholarships & funding

As we are a public university, no studentships are available for Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. degrees, independently of the student's nationality. Nevertheless, for the second academic year (thesis research) there is a possibility to apply for a studentship in research projects running in our science and technology centers. You can apply for a studentship while completing your first academic year of the Master but we cannot guarantee that there will be funding for all students for the second research year.

  • International Students*: 4000 Euros
  • Application Fee: 50 Euros
  • Registration Fee and School Insurance: 175 Euros

Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, the first at the time of registration.

*in accordance with Decree-Law No. 36/2014, changed by Decree-Law No.62/2018, of 6th August, international students are nationals of a country that is not a Member State of the European Union and are not a legal resident in Portugal for more than 2 uninterrupted years by 1st of January of the enrolment year.

Students who complete this training have an adequate profile to work in companies (landscape architecture, engineering, architecture, consultancy), municipalities, state agencies (such as those related to regional planning and regional development), institutions and associations promoting development, both in the design, planning, and / or landscape management and planning.
