Introduction
The Faculty of Biology at UGM aims to fulfil its vision and mission by responding to developments in Science and Technology (Scientific Vision), particularly in tropical biology, community needs (Social needs), and stakeholder requirements with specific specializations. To achieve this, the Faculty organizes the Master Program in Biology (SP-MB). Established in the academic year 1980/1981, SP-MB initially operated as part of UGM's doctoral education institution.
SP-MB offers two programs: Regular and Research, encompassing seven study interests:
- Industrial Biology and Biological Engineering
- Medical and Forensic Biology
- Functional and Developmental Biology
- Biodiversity and Biosystematics
- Systems Biology and Synthetics
- Marine Biology; and
- Environmental and Conservation Biology
The Master Program's competency is designed according to the Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF). The curriculum in SP-MB is tailored to meet educational quality standards and graduate competencies set by the government under the IQF, implemented in 2013. Moreover, SP-MB adheres to international learning standards and holds international accreditation (ASIIN) valid until 2029.
Vision
Become an internationally recognized faculty, as a center of education, research development, and community services in biology, especially in tropical biology, oriented to the interests of the nation and based on Pancasila
Mission
- Carrying out a highly qualified Master's Program in order to educate and empower the nation, maintain national integration and international vision
- Develop a Master's Program in accordance with the demands of the era to improve transparent management and qualify in a sustainable manner
- Improving the quality of research that sustains education, advancement of science, technology, and art and enrichment of the nation’s culture
- Improving community service on the basis of social responsibility for the benefit of the people
