Introduction
Students of Systematic Biology and Ecology are continuously educated, for example, in the entomology, hydrobiology, behavioral ecology, acarology, bryology, mineralogy and paleontology, parasitology, ornithology, biotechnology or dynamics and management of forest ecosystems.
The staff and students, who actively participate in the research from the beginning of their studies, are all engaged in various research projects exploring the ecological and biological issues of the region Eastern Bohemia. The main research interests of the academic staff include botanical research, mostly in protected areas, physiology of plants, entomology, parasitology, zoology of chordates, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, agrochemistry, geomorphology or geo-dendrology.
Research activities
The Department educates experts who are equipped to work in bodies of states control dealing with the environment and the protection of nature, research and service laboratories focused on biology, ecology or biomedicine, cultural and educational institutions focused on ecological education and scientific activities. The aim of practical activities in laboratories as well as in field research is to extend students ́knowledge and transform theoretical knowledge into practice. The research activities of the Department are supported by a huge amount of indigenous as well as foreign grants, by cooperation with a number of colleges and scientific establishments in the Czech Republic and in the foreign countries.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Application deadline: 30th June (for starting studies in September)
Applicants have to send:
- filled-in application form;
- a copy of the university diploma certifying that the applicant completed Bachelor studies (this document has to be translated into English and verified by a notary).
