McIntire's one-year Master of Science in the Management of Information Technology (M.S. in MIT) Program is a leader in developing savvy technology managers and strategic business decision makers. By understanding how current and emerging technologies can best be applied to make their organizations more profitable, productive, and competitive, McIntire graduates are well-positioned to face the challenges of management in the 21st century.

The program offers an innovative curriculum that employs a real-world problem-solving approach and an outstanding faculty dedicated to teaching and bringing the corporate perspective into the classroom. Featuring an executive format, the program allows working professionals from a wide range of industries and functional areas of expertise to remain on the job while completing their degree.​

McIntire's M.S. in Management of IT Program provides a comprehensive understanding of the advanced technology, business, and behavioral skills that you will need to manage and lead within a complex, IT-enabled business environment.   • Expand your perspective. Our faculty members are dedicated to teaching. They will challenge your assumptions and bring the corporate perspective into the classroom through speakers, case studies, and project-based experiences.
  • Maintain your work/life balance. Our executive format allows working professionals to remain on the job and complete the degree in one year by attending classes one weekend a month in Charlottesville or every other Saturday in the Metro D.C. region.

Admissions

UVA's McIntire School of Commerce seeks to admit a class of well-rounded individuals who bring to the program exceptional intellectual capabilities, diverse professional experiences, and a passion for lifelong learning.

Admissions Criteria

Admitted students are academically competitive; have successfully held positions of professional responsibility related to the management of IT; and demonstrate qualities of character such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, integrity, ability to work with others, self-reliance, and leadership. Factors such as diversity of perspective and functional expertise outside of IT may also be considered.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for admission to the M.S. in MIT Program, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have met the following minimum requirements:

  • Have a conferred bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. The M.S. in MIT Program accepts students with a wide range of undergraduate majors.
  • Have a minimum of two years of professional work experience (post bachelor’s degree) that includes significant managerial or technical involvement with IT.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written English language skills. Non-native English speakers may need to submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores. Please visit https://www.commerce.virginia.edu/ms-mit/international for detailed requirements.

GMAT, GRE, and EA Information

Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the M.S. in MIT Program. Applicants may voluntarily submit their Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or Executive Assessment (EA) test scores to help the admissions committee better understand your academic readiness for the program. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to ask an applicant to submit an official, standardized test score if they feel an additional academic data point is necessary to make an admissions decision. ​​

Deadlines

Admission to the M.S. in MIT Program is competitive, and space in the class is limited. Only completed applications will be considered for admission, and it is to your advantage to apply as early as possible.

We admit just one class per year, with sections in Northern Virginia and Charlottesville. Classes for both sections begin in early September.

Rolling admissions will continue as long as space remains available, with the following deadlines:

  • June 15
  • July 1
  • July 15
  • Aug 1
