Introduction

Why study Process Technology?

Would you like to be able to design and evaluate industrial process equipment units, such as heat exchangers, absorbers or transport systems? Do you see the potential in being able to make mathematical models and improve processes through simulation studies? Would you like to learn how to estimate the costs of building process plants?

The master programme in Process Technology educates engineers who will be qualified for working in all types of processing plants, both onshore and offshore. As an expert in process technology, you can help shape the world's future energy consumption and improve industrial production processes.

The programme is taught in English and international students are enrolled in this programme. The vibrant student environment offers excellent facilities and students have close contact with their teachers

Where will I work?

With a master's degree in Process Technology, you will have the expertise you need to work on the design and operation of processes and processing plants, both onshore and offshore. You can participate in the design or operation of industrial process plants, and will also be qualified to work with process safety and energy production.

Working with the local business community

The local business community will be involved throughout this programme, for example through guest speakers from our partnering institutions and through visits to relevant companies.

We do extensive research and work closely with our industrial partners. The majority of the student projects in our programme are done in partnership with external companies.

USN offers career days on campus every year with visits from relevant local businesses. In addition, several of our partners offer summer jobs to students.

What you will learn?

The master programme in Process Technology provides you with specialized skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Process technology and equipment

  • Heat and mass transfer

  • Applied thermodynamics

  • Modelling and simulation

  • Process safety

  • Process synthesis

  • Process control

  • Project management

  • Cost estimation

  • Team work

  • Research

Gain international experience

You can take parts of the master's degree in Process Technology abroad. To study or take an internship abroad can give you the opportunity to expand your international skills and adaptability. It can make you more attractive in the labour market. USN has exchange programs with universities around the world that makes it possible for you as a student to travel abroad.

Semester exchange to USN

Within this programme there are several exchange opportunities for students from our partner universities. Please contact our program administrator for details and course lists. The application deadline for exchange is April 15 for the autumn semester and October 15 for the spring semester.

Further studies

The master's degree is eligible for doctoral studies at the University of Southeastern Norway or at other universities and colleges in Norway and abroad.

Study Plan

A study plan describes the content, structure and organization of a study programme. To each study plan there is a set of subject plans that describes the different subjects. In the subject plan you will also find a reading list. Below you will find a study model that shows you which subjects that are taught each term. In the study model you'll also find links to each subject plan.
