Introduction

Master of Accountancy (MACC)

In order to be admitted to the Master of Accountancy program, the student should first meet all requirements for admission to graduate study at The University of Texas—Pan American, as well as the MACC requirements specified below. Visit Graduate Studies to apply for graduate school.

All students applying for admission to the MACC program should provide the following to the University Office of Admissions and Records (through the Graduate Office):

  • Application
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities
  • Official GMAT score
  • If necessary, catalog(s) for evaluation of transcript(s).
  • Letter of Intent explaining why the student is pursuing a MACC degree.

The student should note the following classification and admission criteria for the MACC program that are different from those for admission to the University for Graduate Study but are the same as those for admission to the MBA program.
Graduate Student Admission Classification

Students who satisfy the University graduate admission criteria must then be evaluated for admission to the MACC program. Admission is based on an indication that the student will succeed in the MACC program.

Currently the GMAT score in combination with the GPA of the last 60 hours are used in conjunction with the letter of intent as the basis for admission to the MACC program. Students can appeal to the MACC committee for admission based on some other strong indication of success in the program.

This degree is right for you if…

  • If you want to compete for professional accounting positions in business and government as well as in public accounting firms.
  • If you want to meet the 150-hour requirements of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy to sit for the Certified Public Accountant examination,
  • If you want to specialize in accounting beyond the undergraduate accounting degree
  • If you want to retrain yourself to be an accountants.

The MACC degree is a 36-hour program that may be completed in two academic years.

Program courses are scheduled during evening hours or weekends.

The MACC Program is open to students who have a bachelor's degree in any field, however, foundation courses or their equivalents should be taken prior to enrolling in advanced classes.
