The Art Education Master of Arts in Teaching & Credential Program will prepare you for a career as a successful and innovative art teacher in classrooms K-12. This program meets both national and California art education standards and includes one semester of student teaching in a public school classroom, mentored by a master teacher. Once you have completed: all coursework student teaching requirements, and passed both cycles of California Teacher Performance Assessment tests you will be recommended for a California K-12 art teaching credential. For your Capstone project, you will be encouraged to think like an advocate in order to create a dynamic arts advocacy video to educate the public about the importance of art education to a 21st-century creative economy.

Our Master of Arts in Art Education degree will help you grow both as an artist and as an educator. You will study and explore art education programs in schools, communities, and museum settings by carefully examining theories and best practices through a global perspective lens. Your Capstone project will envision, create, implement, and document your vision of a successful education arts program.

To receive serious consideration, applicants will have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with relevant coursework and a grade point average of at least 3.3 (out of 4.0) in the last 60 units of undergraduate study.

CIIS’ master’s in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness has been designed to help shape the intellectual, moral, and spiritual leadership necessary for meeting historic global challenges. Our students pursue a unique interdisciplinary curriculum which prepares them for professional careers in academia, writing and research, consulting, counseling and coaching, and entrepreneurship. Our faculty have established international reputations and a wide range of research interests in fields such as: evolutionary and archetypal cosmology, philosophy, religious studies, Jungian and transpersonal psychology, ecology, and the evolution of consciousness.

The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a practitioner-oriented degree. The basic TESOL degree consists of 10 courses for a total of 30 academic credits. Full-time students can complete the program in three or four semesters.

The Master of Arts with Concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) prepares students specifically to teach English to non-native speakers of the language.

CIIS’ master’s in Women, Gender, Spirituality, and Social Justice honors the spiritual impulses that have guided movements for equality and justice across the globe. This program is best suited to those who are interested in developing a visionary approach to their work as activists, educators, healers, facilitators, artists, and socially conscious entrepreneurs. Our graduates pursue a unique interdisciplinary curriculum which prepares them for professional careers in academia and research, teaching and education, coaching and counseling, media, and entrepreneurship. Our innovative and diverse faculty pursue research interests in the three areas of the curriculum: Women and World Religions; Feminist and Ecofeminist Philosophy and Activism; and Women's Mysteries, Sacred Arts, and Healing.

The master's program in Catholic Educational Leadership prepares graduates for effective leadership as administrators in Catholic elementary and secondary schools and for diocesan positions. The program consists of 30 credits, 24 of which are core credits.

A generative context for advanced inquiry into the ideas, institutions, and discourses of contemporary art. We challenge students to expand skills of analysis, questioning, and creative problem solving to prepare them for a lifelong commitment to art and ideas. Our scholars are considered artists and they work side by side with MFA candidates—their creative materials are ideas and words. MA candidates participate in art history and critical theory seminars; research and writing colloquia; and have opportunities for curating, internships, and travel. These crossdisciplinary offerings prepare students to cultivate and execute an individualized course of study that will lead to the final research thesis—a book-length work of creative scholarship.
