The general goal of the program is to give relevant knowledge to students about the common universal human characteristics and values in their diverse and complex manifestations from the perspective of cultural anthropology.

Social anthropologists research the human experience by observing and participating in people’s daily lives. The Anthropology MA program enables you to specialize in Social Anthropology and learn more about the human experience from a comparative perspective. The program provides a stimulating research environment where you can develop your own research project through a range of fieldwork-based practices that examines the relativity of world views, and the commonalities of social practices, and relate them to a broader global context.

The master's degree in Visual and Media Anthropology teaches social and cultural aspects of digitization. This includes comprehensive knowledge of research into digitization, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality.

Located within the School of Global Studies, which has a strong tradition of socially and politically engaged anthropology focusing on real-world issues. This MA is for you if you want to deepen your knowledge of anthropology – but it also offers professional training if you’re new to the field.

In the MSc in Anthropology – Visual Anthropology degree program, you work with cultures and societies around the world. You work with a comparative perspective and, through the study of social and cultural conditions, you seek to acquire an understanding of human conditions and the way they change. You gain insight into how people live and interact with each other and into the society's institutions, rules, traditions and technology.

This MA in the anthropology of religion is unique and is characterised by its holistic, comparative and ethnographic approach. Holistic because it investigates themes as they are embedded within the totality of local lifeworlds, for example in the topics of food, sexuality and religion.

The Master's program in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University is specifically geared towards ethnographic research. Throughout the duration of this one-year program, you will undertake independent research.

The Master's program in Social & Cultural Anthropology is characterized by a very good student-student ratio and a wide range of methodological, theoretical, and regional courses. 15 master's students are admitted per year. Since these places are fully allocated, it is one of the largest MA courses in anthropology in the country.

The Department of Social Science offers a two-year full-time Master's program in Visual Anthropology. This program aims to teach students how to produce knowledge about people's lives and cultures through an exploration of their everyday lives based on the use of qualitative social science research methods and ethnographic film. The master’s degree course in Anthropology and visual studies offers the possibility of a fully disciplinary specialization, thanks to the presence of a differentiated offer of anthropological teachings of classical cut, which however focus on the emerging themes of contemporaneity, and at the same time to practice interdisciplinary paths, in particular those aimed at artistic and communicative practices, at cultural representations, experimenting an original weaving with the area of visual studies, thanks to the contributions of semiology, qualitative sociology, spectacle disciplines.

This Programme offers an intensive introduction to contemporary anthropology. As societies around the world vary enormously in their social, cultural, and political forms, the Master of Social Anthropology Programme is designed to study these variations and the common humanity contained therein. Such topics as transnational mobility, debated cultural practices of inclusion and exclusion as well as the transformation of the state are specially articulated in the Programme. This programme looks at language from a sociocultural perspective. It's designed for anyone with an interest in the relationship between language, culture and society but also provides a solid understanding of English language and linguistics.
