This flexible project-based postgraduate course is open to artists and designers wishing to develop fresh assumptions for their creative practice by means of innovative, practice-based, research-driven approaches to creative enquiry. Informed by a spirit of interdisciplinary experimentation, and underpinned by conceptual understanding, MA Art & Design promotes awareness of the value-informed nature of leading-edge contemporary art and design.

The M.A. in Art, Design and Media offers a creative environment in which students tailor their curriculum to their unique scholarly and creative interests and apply theory to original research. This program aims to create a fresh vision and expression in the diversity of cultural life and change in the social environment. To achieve this, both students and instructors make a continuous effort with self-study. Based on the motivation of each research office, each graduate student makes an annual curriculum plan under discussion with the supervisor. Mid-term, students have an opportunity to present their research and have instructions for further development. This M.A. Games Art and Design degree meet the needs of the games industry. The games industry has developed dramatically from the days of the solo practitioner to become a global market where large teams of artists work in unison to create content for the next generation of interactive game technologies. The current games art and design practitioner is likely to become a specialist in one area, such as character modelling, environment creation, lighting, animating etc.

Students research, experiment with, and create in various expressive methods and mediums, while considering and researching issues without being limited to traditional art and design frameworks. Rather than producing tangible “things,” they come up with concepts, make plans, and carry them out, resulting in expression. In other words, they study the creative process itself and perform research while focusing on the importance of concepts. The overall research method combines investigation, collection, planning, study, and production (including a thesis).

The master's degree in "Art and Cooperation" is a project-oriented, interdisciplinary degree program and provides differentiated, practice-related knowledge with the aim of sharpening the artistic profile in dealing with a cooperation partner and training students to become active designers in an increasingly networked art field. The graduates develop a mature, independent artistic position and at the same time have profound knowledge of various forms of artistic expression and can apply them in inter-and multidisciplinary contexts. The basis of the course is the individual artistic work, which significantly determines the selection of the cooperation partner as well as the content and form of the cooperation. The students develop and deepen their individual artistic work by dealing with various social, scientific, technical, and artistic-creative contexts (see project areas). In addition, the course imparts application-related skills in the areas of the organization, communication, and mediation of projects as well as the spatial presentation of artistic works. Practical skills in the artistic design and implementation of projects as well as technical skills are also deepened. PROJECT AREAS Cooperations can be located in five project areas (download PDF), which include different areas of knowledge and practice, and each offers different possibilities for the design of cooperations. The project areas serve as an orientation for the conception of cooperations and for the compilation of the individual timetable.
