Within the Institute of History, the Department for Interdisciplinary History has been providing education in the field of cultural heritage since 2012, initially as a specialization of the History MA program, and from 2016 in the form of an independent Hungarian master's degree program. Since 2018, the Department has been coordinating a bilingual (English and French) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree program on cultural heritage (TEMA+ European Territories. Heritage and Development), in association with four partner universities (Charles University, Prague; École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris; University of Catania; Université Laval, Québec) and in cooperation with European Heritage Label (EHL) and various UNESCO organs. The English-language Cultural Heritage Studies MA program is based on the domestic and international experiences of the department. The program includes two specializations: 1) Theory of Cultural Heritage, 2) Museum and Curatorial Studies. The program provides internships for students in several institutions involved in heritage protection and management.

The V&A/RCA MA History of Design draws on the exceptional resources and national and international networks of two world-leading centres of excellence for scholarship and creativity, the RCA and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). With a base at the RCA and dedicated programme rooms and library at the V&A, since its foundation in 1983, this pioneering programme has earned a worldwide reputation as the leading MA programme in the field. Our research-led teaching and experiential methods inspire and train future leaders in the field.

This Masters in the History of the Highlands and Islands is the first-ever taught the postgraduate course to focus on the colourful and often conflict-driven history of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, from medieval times to the 20th century.

The aim of the course is to systematically and coherently develop a range of historical research skills and thereby, further the historical understanding of local and regional communities and societies.

The student of the Master’s degree course in “Religions, Cultures, History” (Class LM 64) has the opportunity to choose the double degree program in “Religions, Cultures, History / Religion in the Public Sphere”, in collaboration with the University Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in Hannover.

To recognize Mediterranean identity means to explore the cultural diversity of European society. Our objective is to find mechanisms in favor of integration, respect for diversity, and cohesion within the Mediterranean and European territory. In this sense, the master can give graduates the research training necessary to identify the socioeconomic, political, and cultural structures inherited from Prehistory, Ancient History, and the Middle Ages, to be able to apply a proper historical analysis.

This Program offers the student with a four-year BDiv, a BThHons or equivalent qualification, the opportunity of theological specialisation and research at master's level.

This University Master's Degree has been the first Official Master's Degree offered in Spain in the field of classical antiquity from a linguistic and literary perspective. It has been organised and taught since the 2006 by the Departments of Classical and Indo-European Philology of the University of Salamanca and Classical Philology of the University of Valladolid.

The creation of an advanced cycle of studies, the Master in History and Cultural Heritages, consolidates an area in which the University of Algarve has been a pioneer among Portuguese universities since it created the degree in Cultural Heritage in 1999. It seeks to combine the methodologies of History, Art History, and literary studies, integrating them into a reading that addresses the multifaceted processes of production and cultural transmission.

The university master's degree in Cleaning Treatments for Cultural Property aims to train specialized conservators-restorers capable of carrying out cleaning interventions. It teaches advanced knowledge about intervention criteria, materials and pathologies linked to cleaning treatments, and scientific analysis techniques for the diagnosis and description of the materials of the works and the waste from cleaning processes.

Relevant honours degree

The Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (created in 1990) is the only one in the Spanish university community that has its own area of knowledge in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets, granted by the Council of Universities in the year 1992.

The two-year Master's course in Science and Technology for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage aims to train experts in the field of cultural heritage conservation and archaeometry. At the end of the course, they will be able to detect deterioration processes, characterize materials, and assess conservation protocols for all kinds of cultural heritage thanks to the knowledge of the physical, chemical, biological, and structural properties of materials.
