What are the laws of nature governing the universe from elementary particles to the development of the solar system, stars and galaxies? In the Master’s Programme in Particle Physics and Astrophysical Sciences, you focus on gaining an extensive understanding of these phenomena. You will also acquire proficiency in the use of mathematical methods, IT tools and/or experimental equipment, as well as strong problem-solving and logical deduction skills.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Physics provided by the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is a two-year (120 ECTS) full-time programme taught in English. Applications for this master's degree programme can be submitted once a year in January, and once accepted, your studies will begin in September. From this programme, you will graduate with a Master of Science degree.

Master in Advanced Materials Physics and Nanostructures

The International Master of Advanced Methods in Particle Physics (IMAPP) is a joint degree program between the TU Dortmund University, the University of Bologna, and Clermont Auvergne. We want to get inside the experiences of committing or controlling crime. If you are a graffiti writer, what are the thrills? What efforts are used in trying to control graffiti, and what is the cultural understanding among media and social control agents?

X-ray and neutron beams have special properties for studying a wide range of topics such as fundamental physics, biology and geology. In this world-unique programme, you will learn about the creation and use of such beams. The education has a special emphasis on research at the world-leading X-ray and neutron research facilities MAX IV and ESS in Lund, where many of the degree projects are conducted together with PhD students and researchers. Both the underlying physical mechanisms as well as advanced methods to study for instance magnetism, catalysis and proteins are discussed.

Particle physics addresses the fundamental principles governing our world: forces and constituents. Today, our understanding is described by the Standard Model theory, which has exceptional predictive power but is incomplete. We explore the predictions of the Standard Model and seek a more complete understanding. These experiments are mainly done at the LHC collider at CERN where we are involved in the ATLAS and ALICE experiments. ATLAS searches for new physics, whereas ALICE studies the quark-gluon plasma. As a Master’s student in particle physics, you will take an active part in analysing the data recorded by the experiments.
