How can historians help tackle problems within organizations? How can historical knowledge and skills detect blind spots in organizations and thereby improve their effectiveness and social impact?

The professionalization of politics and public life requires constant training and updating. People who make political decisions and administer the State, as well as those who want to analyze and advise in this field, must have specialized training and be aware of topics such as history, law, economics, administration and protocol. In addition, they must have essential skills today, such as leadership, communication, crisis management and mastery of new technologies.

The MLitt in Global Social and Political Thought provides an innovative transnational and comparative approach to the study of the history and influence of global thought traditions. Global intellectual history – the transnational and comparative approach to the history of ideas – is a developing field of academic study. 

Develop expertise across History and Politics, two closely linked disciplines, and become equipped with the skills and knowledge to tackle complex ideas from multiple perspectives.

How does Ukraine protect its monuments in the current war? Which policies should Dutch authorities develop concerning art stolen during the Second World War? What should be done with disputed statues related to Europe's colonial past?

The MA in Politics, Organizations, and Learning Histories at the University of Groningen prepares you to answer these types of questions about the inner workings of organizations. You are taught how to gain historical insight into long-term problems within organizations and how to solve these, after which you become an expert in using the past to solve current issues. The track is unique in its implementation of historical thinking to all kinds of organizations.
