The Eastern Mediterranean University is the largest university on the island of Cyprus. The university has its roots in the Higher Technological Institute, a vocational training college established in 1979. EMU was founded in 1986 and during the same year the Faculty of Business and Economics opened its doors to students enrolling in the two undergraduate programs of Business Administration and Economics. In 25 years, our student numbers have grown from 40 to more than 2000 with 16 Undergraduate, 6 Masters and 4 Doctoral programs offered directly by our Faculty or by the School of Applied Disciplines division of our Faculty. Our students are approximately 10% local, 45% from the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and the Balkans and another 45% from Turkey. We employ 45 full-time faculty members, 14 part time faculty and 22 Research Assistants.
The Faculty of Business and Economics is the leading academic center in social sciences in North Cyprus. We take pride in the high academic standards we uphold while sustaining a student-friendly environment. Our graduates mostly pursue careers in reputable firms, whilst some proceed to further academic studies. Faculty members are well qualified with doctoral degrees from reputable universities. They remain current in their teaching fields through research and publications in top scholarly journals. Our faculty members are regularly consulted in the media and by public and private organizations as authorities in their fields. We also run several collaborative projects with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and other stakeholders.
In addition to our membership in AACSB International, our Faculty is also a member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), and of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). We have been named as one of the best 1000 business schools in the world by Eduniversal, an educational consulting firm based in France. The Webometrics Ranking produced by the Cybermetrics Lab, a unit of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the main public research body in Spain has announced that our faculty ranks 3rd among Turkish business schools, 14th among schools in the Middle east, 155th among schools in Asia and 329th among schools in Europe.
Located in the port city of Gazimagusa, near some breathtaking natural and historical sites, EMU reaches out to the global community through international conferences and research centers. We recently hosted a number of very successful international conferences in Entrepreneurship, Banking and Finance and Economics which attracted large numbers of participants from various universities around the world. We have also signed an agreement with the Warwick Manufacturing Group of Warwick University offers the Master of Engineering Management and the Master of Supply Chain Management on our campus in collaboration with us.
Our courses are supported by an online Course Management System which is very widely used by faculty and students and handles over 7,000 uploads and downloads per day. We have joined the SAP University Alliance program and we are planning to integrate various modules of the software into our curriculum.
The Faculty of Business and Economics is primarily committed to providing high quality education for students in the Eastern Mediterranean as well as in the contiguous regions with an emphasis on research concerning the issues in these regions complemented by service to the community.
