Wits Business School is the graduate school of business administration of the University of the Witwatersrand, one of the top tertiary institutes in Africa.

The School offers a variety of postgraduate academic programmes and executive education programmes as well as weekly public seminars. WBS also designs tailor-made, in-company programmes, partnering with client organisations to develop management capacity. With a full suite of programmes on offer, WBS delivers innovative, transformative, and immersive learning experiences using generative thinking methodologies.

The School’s aim is to deliver leaders who can fashion the future of Africa and raise the values-bar on how business is done on the continent. Learning is therefore relevant to the challenges and opportunities that we face on this continent, providing students with a deep understanding of the complexities of doing business in Africa within a global context.

Our academic faculty comprises highly qualified academics with almost all of them holding PhDs, more than any other business school on the continent.

WBS has an extensive Management Library, 24-hour meeting rooms and Africa’s largest Case Study Centre, housing over 200 real-life cases that bring relevant business challenges into the classroom.

The main campus is in Parktown and our satellite campus is in Braamfontein, both in Johannesburg, the vibrant, commercial hub of the continent and offers a modern learning environment built on the Harvard School of Business ‘horseshoe’ format.

We have accreditations from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Global Admissions Council (GMAC).

We are the only business school in Africa to have been admitted to the Partnership in International Management (PIM), a student exchange programme for international study at over 60 leading business schools around the world.

Programme Overview

Make the pursuit of knowledge your ultimate goal with the Master of Management by Research – a programme aimed at honors and post-graduate students seeking to further build on their qualifications in a related field of study. Awarded on the basis of a supervised thesis, the MM in Research offers focused analysis in the areas of finance, management, and work-related disciplines, giving students the opportunity to expand their horizons and continue down the path of higher learning and understanding.

Curriculum

The MM by Research comprises a fill dissertation, which you will produce under the guidance of a supervisor and which must be completed in one year for full-time students or two years for part-time students. Programme Overview

Open to all post-graduate students, the MMENVC provides a solid grounding in entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, with emphasis on both theoretical and practical applications as they relate to new venture creation. Learn the key concepts of entrepreneurship, evolve your strategic, critical and analytical thinking, and take the first step towards ensuring your ongoing success as an entrepreneur. The Masters in entrepreneurship is focused on creating and disseminating higher-level entrepreneurial knowledge and skills which translates into venture creation and research capacity building. The degree is purposefully structured in such a manner that entrepreneurship is at the core of learning and is not a peripheral issue or a popular management concept. A holistic and integrated curriculum with entrepreneurship at the epicenter allows students to complement their general education and develop entrepreneurial competencies and commitment. The Master of Management in Finance and Investment is a full-time, one-year block-release programme. Programme Overview

The WBS Master of Management in Innovation Studies (MM Innovation Studies) is an interdisciplinary, specialist programme that investigates innovation and its impact on firm profitability and economic growth, and how it can be shaped for the achievement of broader societal goals. The programme is designed for individuals with relevant undergraduate degrees such as business, economics, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and law who intend to pursue careers in specific areas of innovation management or innovation policy in business, academia, development institutions or other civil society organizations. It may also be attractive to mid-level career professionals who are working with agencies or firms, and who may be responsible for developing and executing innovation strategies and programmes at the local, regional, national or international levels. Programme Overview

Our Master of Management in the field of Strategic Marketing is for postgraduate students who want to convert their undergraduate degree into a highly valuable WBS MM degree and break into a career in marketing, as well as for practicing marketers who want to advance their careers armed with the knowledge they need to confidently take on substantial projects using the latest marketing science and thinking.

Curriculum

The Masters in Strategic Marketing is a 2-year part-time programme that is covered in two parts. You will do in-depth coursework through a number of modules, followed by a dissertation on a research topic of your choice. The dissertation comprises 50% of your mark and builds on everything you have learned during the course. You will need to choose a suitable topic, develop a research proposal, collect and analyze data, and present a research report.... [-]
